Rleey | Grade Selection Guide for OEM Custom Tungsten Carbide Shear Blades
Full Article Structure
1. Introduction: Carbide Grade for Shear Blades
Shear blades bear impact force during reciprocating cutting. Grade selection decides whether blades resist chipping or wear. Rleey customizes tungsten carbide shear blades for rubber, plastic, fiber and thin metal shearing, and we recommend suitable grade according to your working condition.
2. Two Key Properties: Hardness & Toughness
- Higher hardness: better wear resistance, longer service life, easier to chip under heavy impact
- Higher toughness: anti-impact and anti-chipping, but wear speed becomes faster
- Continuous light shearing: choose high hardness grade
- Intermittent heavy impact shearing: choose higher toughness grade
3. Common Grade Matching for Different Shearing Materials
For soft rubber and foam, we recommend balanced grade. For fiber, glass-filled plastic, high hardness grade is preferred. For thin steel sheet shearing, medium toughness grade is used to avoid edge breakage under impact.
4. Grade Parameter Reference Table
| Grade | HRA Hardness | Suitable Shearing Material |
|---|---|---|
| Grade A | 91.5 ~ 92.5 | Plastic film, foam, soft rubber |
| Grade B | 90.5 ~ 91.5 | Fiber, non-woven fabric, composite material |
| Grade C | 89.0 ~ 90.5 | Thin metal sheet, hard rubber, heavy intermittent shear |
5. FAQ for Grade Change & Blade Performance
Q1: Can we change grade after sample test fails?
Yes, we can remake samples with adjusted grade, but new sample cost and lead time will apply.
Q2: Will higher hardness grade always get longer blade life?
No. If the shear impact is heavy, high hardness blade will chip quickly and fail early.
6. Summary & Grade Recommendation
Tell us your shearing material, cutting speed and working mode, our engineer will recommend the most suitable carbide grade for your OEM shear blades, to balance wear resistance and impact resistance.

The grade table is for reference only. Final performance depends on actual cutting load, feeding speed and equipment condition. We suggest small batch sampling before mass production to verify blade performance.
